Don’t Let Others Decide Who You Are

You’ve probably hear the saying, “The greatest prison you can live in is the fear of what others think”

Yall, that’s the truth! People can hold you back if you allow them to define who you are and what you should be doing!

I love to read about people who have taken a bad situation, and despite all odds, have turned it around for good.

Here’s a few:

Albert Einstein didn’t talk until he was four years old and was told that he would never be smart.

Thomas Edison was told by his teacher, as a young boy, that he was too stupid to learn anything.

Michael Jordan was cut from his high school basketball team.

Walt Disney was fired by a newspaper editor because he was told that he “lacked imagination and had no original ideas.”

Oprah Winfrey was publicly fired from her first television job as an anchor in Baltimore for getting “too emotionally invested in her stories.”

Dr. Seuss had his first book rejected by 27 different publishers. (His books have sold over 600 million copies!)

JK Rowling’ book, Harry Potter, was rejected by 12 publishing houses. (She’s sold over 500 million books making her the first billionaire author.)

After Harrison Ford's first small movie role, an executive took him into his office and told him he'd never succeed in the movie business

These people didn't allow others to define them.

They didn:t allow the naysayers to win in their life.

They didn’t allow their circumstances, as bad as they might have seemed, to define them.

In fact, they defeated the odds. Sure they faced challenges and disappointments, but despite it all, their determination and persistence led them to greatness.

I love that!

Have you discovered that people everywhere will try tell you who you are and what you can and can’t do?

Maybe you’ve been one of their targets and heard something like this said over your life:

You’ll never amount to anything.

You don’t have it in you.

You're past your prime.

You're too young.

You've made too many mistakes.

You're not smart enough, talented enough…you don:t have what it takes.

If you’re not careful, they will talk you right out of your destiny. But they can only do it if you allow them to.

The bottom line is this: You are not your mistakes. You are not your failures. You are not your history. You are not defined by where you came from. You are defined and created by God and He has never made a mistake and He’s not about to begin with you! Don’t get lost in what people are saying about you.

Remind yourself what God says about you:

Ephesians 2:10 For we are God’s masterpiece.

1 Corinthians 6:20 For God bought you with a high price.

1 Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

John 8:36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.

Deuteronomy 7:6 For you are a people holy to the Lord your God. The Lord your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be his people, His treasured possession.

2 Corinthians 5:17 For if a man belongs to Christ, he is a new person. The old life is gone. New life has begun.

Remember, People have every right to their opinion and you have every right to ignore it!
