How to Pray for your Family

PRAYER IS POWERFUL! The scripture states, The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results. (James 5:16 NLT) Do you see that…WONDERFUL results!

I believe with all of my heart that if you get serious about praying over your family every single day and stay consistent, you will see things change for the better. Why? Because God's Word changes things! It changes people, hearts, situations and circumstances.

If you want to change what you're seeing, you have to begin to change what you're SAYING. In other words, don't magnify the problems, magnify the PROMISES of God's Word.

Below are scriptures you can use as a guideline to pray over your family every single day. I encourage you to pray like your life depends on it. Speak the Word of LIFE over your family. Speak what you want to see. Get a vision of your family being healthy, strong, unified, loving, peaceful, kind, courageous, hope-filled, joyous, happy and having fun! God's desire for us is to have an ABUNDANT, overflowing life; not a barely-get-by, struggling, on the verge of divorce, hanging-on-by-a-thread kind of life. Hey, you may not be living in that “abundant” kind of life just yet, but you hang on, get serious about praying, and just you wait and see what God can do!

For Protection

2 Thessalonians 3:3(NIV)-But the Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.

For Unity

Colossians 3:14(NLT)-Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony.

For Joy

Romans 15:13(NIV)-May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

For Wisdom

Proverbs 4:6-7(NLT)-Don’t turn your back on wisdom, for she will protect you. Love her, and she will guard you. Getting wisdom is the wisest thing you can do! And whatever else you do, develop good judgment.

Staying Strong in Faith

Ephesians 6:10(NKJV)-Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.

For Direction

Psalm 16:11(NIV)-You make known to me the path of life;

Psalm 25:4(NLT)-Show me the right path, o Lord; point out the road for me to follow.

For Provision

2 Corinthians 9:8(NIV)-And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.

For Perseverance

Galatians 6:9(NLT)-So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.

To be Finishers

Ecclesiastes 7:8(NLT)-Finishing is better than starting. Patience is better than pride.

For Favor

Psalm 5:12(NIV)-Surely, Lord, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor as with a shield.

For Peace

2 Thessalonians 3:16(NASB)-Now may the Lord of peace Himself continually grant you peace in every circumstance. The Lord be with you all!

Isaiah 32:18(NIV)-My people will live in peaceful dwelling places, in secure homes, in undisturbed places of rest.

For Unconditional Love

1 Corinthians 13:4-7(NLT)-Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.

For Forgiveness

Colossians 3:13(NLT)-Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.

For Physical Protection

Luke 10:19(KJV)-Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

For an “I can do it” spirit

Philippians 4:13(NKJV)-I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

For always moving forward

Philippians 3:13(NLT)-…Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead,

For Standing up for what is Right

Proverbs 31:9(ERV)-Stand up for what you know is right, and judge all people fairly. Protect the rights of the poor and those who need help.

For a Good Night’s Sleep

Proverbs 3:24(TPT)-You will sleep like a baby, safe and sound—your rest will be sweet and secure.

Proverbs 3:24-(CEV)-you will rest without a worry and sleep soundly.

Against Anxiety

Philippians 4:6(NKJV)-Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

1 Peter 5:7(ESV)-Casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.

Against Worry

Philippians 4:6(NLT)-Don’t worry about anything; instead pray about everything.

Against Fear

2 Timothy 1:7(NKJV)-For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

Against Sin

Romans 12:9(ESV)-Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil, hold fast to what is good.

Keeping God First

Deuteronomy 6:6-9(NLT)-And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up. Tie them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders.  Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

Joshua 24:15(NIV)-….But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.

For Blessing

Proverbs 3:33(NLT)-The Lord curses the house of the wicked, but he blesses the home of the upright.

Numbers 6:24-26 (NLT)-May the Lord bless you and protect you. May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you. May the Lord show you his favor and give you his peace.

See how easy that is. Pray the promises. Don't leave your family to chance. Get in there and pray like you've never prayed before. I can promise you this, God hears and He answers. Be patient, trust the process, keep praying, keep the faith, get your hopes up and remember; Nothing is too hard for Him!
