Replace These 6 Things for a Better Today

Sometimes in life, we don’t recognize that things IN our lives could use some work. Things like, old ways of thinking, a negative mindset or even an attitude that is keeping us from enjoying our days. We keep going around the same mountain and wonder why life doesn’t seem to ever get better.

Here’s a thought—how about we take inventory of our lives and discover what could be holding us back, and then change it! Replace the things that might hindering us with something better.

Here’s 6 areas that might possibly need replacing in your life:

1. Replace overthinking and fear with ACTION.

We all know it’s true—overthinking can keep you STUCK in life. Question after question, trying to figure everything out causes you to not move forward. On top of that, overthinking often brings about FEAR…fear of failure, fear of the unknown, fear of getting started. Fear will paralyze you into staying comfortable right where you are and never making progress.

But YOU, my friend, can rise above it! You have to replace the overthinking and fear with putting feet to your faith and just doing it afraid! The only way through it is to do it! Focus on where you want to go and not what you fear.

2. Replace complaining with GRATITUDE.

Whether you realize it or not, your brain might be trained to complain! I know, I know, that’s not you, but it might be somebody you know! What do I mean? If your automatic response to someone is a complaint, then your brain has been trained to complain. How do you fix it? You think of something that you can be grateful for. When you want to complain about waking up late and a stressful morning, flip the script and instead be grateful that you woke up this morning! Stop using your words to try and describe your situation and begin using your words to CHANGE your situation. Retrain your brain to be grateful instead of complain. YOU CAN DO IT!

Can’t think of anything right now? Well, you can be grateful for TODAY. You can be grateful to be alive. You can be grateful for your family.

There’s always something to be grateful for.

3. Replace negative self talk with POSITIVE DECLARATIONS.

It's not what you say out of your mouth that determines your life, it's what you whisper to yourself that has the most power.

Let me flip the script on your thinking here. Let's retrain our brain by switching our focus.

  • I am not what happened to me, I am who I choose to become.

  • I am not my mistakes. I am deserving, forgiven, qualified and start from a clean slate.

  • I am not my flaws. I am fearfully and wonderfully made by God.

  • I am not full of fear. I am confident, brave and courageous.

  • I am not an option, I am a priority and worthy created with purpose and value.

  • I am not a victim. I am a thriver and destined for greatness.

  • I am not weak. I am strong and healthy and in the best shape of my life.

  • I am not a quitter. I am a finisher.

  • I am not destined to fail. I am designed to win.

Did you see that? You just replaced negative thinking with positive, life-giving declarations over your life!

4. Replace living with dread and regret with ENJOYING TODAY.

Here’s the deal: regret pulls you into the past and dread pulls you into the future at the expense of the present moment.

Whenever you feel yourself starting to dread or regret, shake those thoughts off and choose to live in the present.

The scripture states-This is the day the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it. ( Psalm 118:24) God wants you to enjoy every day of your life!

Decide to stop beating yourself up over the past. You can’t change it—it’s history. Stop dreading the future and decide to enjoy TODAY!

5. Replace worry with PRAYER.

Here’s a great scripture to help you with this:

Philippians 4:6-7-Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

Give your worries to God, thank Him that He will see you through and then take on His peace!

6. Replace discouraging thoughts with HOPE.

It’s easy to get discouraged. If we’re not careful, those discouraging thoughts can take us down fast. That’s why we have to make an effort to replace those thoughts with HOPE. Here are some amazing scriptures about Hope:

Jeremiah 17:7-But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence.

Isaiah 40:31-But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Hebrews 10:23-Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.

Acts 2-24-27-I saw God before me for all time. Nothing can shake me; he’s right by my side. I’m glad from the inside out, ecstatic; I’ve pitched my tent in the land of hope.

Don't just let life pass you by. You have the power to change your story TODAY. Decide what needs replacement in your life and then take action to make your life amazing.
